“Small-batch production, with its overtones of freshness, potency and artisanal craftsmanship, has been big news in the food sector for the past five years. Now, the philosophy is being embraced by the beauty industry as the next stage in the evolution of natural and organic.” THE FUTURE LABORATORY
In an age where instant gratification, automation and immediacy drive our digital world it’s easy to forget that in order to cultivate something of quality it can sometimes take more than technology. Sometimes it demands the most precious, limited and elusive resource known to man. The one thing money can’t buy. Time.

The surge in the slow food movement over the past decade has seen a revival in whole foods prepared in time honoured traditions. This is not just about taste. Beyond gastronomy we want to know not just how food is prepared. From paddock to plate, we want to know the heritage of the ingredients. To be assured that care and consideration has accompanied each component on its journey. Not only does this protect the integrity of what we eat, but accounts for the energetic, moral and environmental contract we have with our planet.
Slow food preparation ensures food is fresh, authentic and nutritionally dense. It safeguards and savours the elements that nourish us. It also eliminates the preservatives, synthetics and fillers that give the convenience of shelf life but then can render it lacklustre.

Global trends indicate that the beauty movement is adopting the same mindful green behaviours to ingredient selection and preparation. We want to know not only what is in our products but where these ingredients have come from and how they were extracted. Ultimately we want to know the story behind how our skincare has been manufactured, to align with the values of these companies.
The Future Laboratory Report from 2016 states that, “growing health concerns over synthetic chemicals are turning consumers away from mass produced, over-processed cosmetics and towards fresh, small-batch concoctions with ingredients that address their safety concerns and avoid the need for preservatives.”
“We want to know not only what is in our products but where these ingredients have come from.”
One of the cornerstones of the Waterlily philosophy is how each and every product and ritual is nurtured into being. Artisan crafting is how Aromatherapists have been creating emulsions for millennia. To promote freshness, product purity and intensify effectiveness this is exactly how each Waterlily product and ritual is created.
Aromatherapy is not simply adding essential oils to a benign base. Essential oils and botanical ingredients are very needy high maintenance precious divas. To protect their integrity and maximise their efficacy they demand a very mindful manufacturing process.

Every Waterlily and Spaceuticals product is manufactured in small hand-crafted batches, created fresh each and every month by our beautiful team at Waterlily Headquarters in Brisbane, Australia. We use a time consuming double blending method to ensure that the more volatile antioxidants, vitamins, omega oils and essential oils are protected from heat; one of the reasons that the Waterlily rituals are so aromatic.

It’s the millennials who are leading the charge in green beauty. It’s not just social and environmental awareness, they realise that the skin is an organ just like any other and it demands the same nutritional principles of health. Ingredients rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, antioxidants, enzymes; the compounds that are the precursors to the cellular building blocks that nourish, protect and age-proof our skin. They realise that small hand-batched manufacturing processes protect the integrity of these precious nutrients.
